Mahimba Game Reserve

Safrique has acquired the exclusive management rights to the well known Mahimba Game Reserve. Mahimba is truly a unique concession within Mozambique. It is situated between two oceanic rivers that along with the Indian Ocean form its boundaries. Unlike many hunting areas found in the Zambezi Delta, Mahimba is not covered by low-lying marshland and swamps. Instead you find pleasant and easy to navigate palmetto flats with coastal forests interspersed throughout.

This protected triangular concession is home to a thriving population of buffalo, sable, elephant waterbuck, bushbuck, reedbuck , crocodile and hippo. Safrique will undertake rebuilding the main camp prior to the 2010 season and looks forward to our first year of hosting safaris there.

Mahindo River Retreat

Adjacent to Safrique’s Mahimba Game Reserve is an old portuguese colonial mansion that will undergo rehabilitation starting in 2010 and finishing in 2011. The Mahindo River Retreat lies on the oceanic river that forms the northern boundary to Mahimba and thus has direct access to great big game fishing. Starting in November 2011 Safrique will start offering fishing and exclusive private retreats to Mahindo River.
